E-Billing for SMEs – Singapore
E-Billing, or electronic billing, is a digital method of invoicing that replaces traditional paper-based billing systems. In Singapore, the adoption of e-billing has grown significantly among small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) due to its efficiency, cost-effectiveness, and alignment with the nation's digital transformation goals. As SMEs form a substantial part of Singapore’s economy—comprising over 99% of all enterprises and contributing to nearly half of the GDP—modernizing their billing systems is a critical step in improving operational efficiency and competitiveness.E-billing involves the creation, delivery, and storage of invoices in digital formats such as PDF, XML, or through specialized e-invoicing platforms. In Singapore, this process is increasingly being streamlined through the nationwide adoption of the Peppol (Pan-European Public Procurement Online) network, a standard framework that allows businesses to send and receive e-invoices securely and automatically across systems. The Infocomm Media Development Authority (IMDA) has been instrumental in promoting Peppol among local businesses, aiming to create a seamless and interoperable e-invoicing ecosystem.
